Having More Children?

My father in-law has always been telling us to have more children. He did that again this morning when I was about to go to work.  I know how the older generations think. They have this “the more, the merrier” concept. Whenever he brought up the topic, I would just keep quiet and listen.

So far, my two pregnancies were ok, not giving me too much problems or complications. When we come to think of the time factor and the economical factor, we think we are happy and contented with the 2 kids at the moment. I guess it is a matter of giving them the right teachings and education that is important. In short, it’s the “quality” not “quantity”. It is our responsibilities as parents to “mould” our children into what we want them to be.

As a working mum, I do not spend much time with the kids except on weekends and the few hours after we come back from work. If I am away for a few days, I will feel guilty and sorry for them.

Time has changed. When I was a child then, all my friends’ mums stayed at home to look after them. So was my mum! In my young perception then, I thought “dad is the one working outside and mum is the one staying at home looking after the kids and doing housework”. As I grow older, I notice the change in the society. More and more women are more capable and they all join the “career women” category. It is also due to the fact that living expenses has increased tremendously especially in the cities areas where one income can not longer support the whole family. Therefore, both husband and wife have to work to support the family.

Nowadays, most of the children are under the care of the maids or their grandparents. I must admit that there are pros and cons to it. Raising a child is definitely not easy !
